Dog Training
One of the most crucial parts of owning a dog is making sure it is well-trained. There are a few reasons why this is so important.
First, you'll have a better experience with your pet dog if it does what you want. Therefore, teaching it not to tear up your couch, or to soil in the house, are crucial. Also, a well-trained dog is normally a safer dog. There have been several occurrences where a dog that knows how to "stay" or "come" has saved its life! Lastly, a well-trained dog is a great reflection upon you. When you have guests or family over to visit, for them to see the time you took in training your dog, shows a lot about your character - not to mention that it makes their visit much more enjoyable. One should also consider the liability if your dog is ill-trained and harms another dog or even a person.
Dog obedience or dog training normally starts off early in its life - but doesn't have to! Puppy classes are very common, to not only teach the basics, but also to socialize your dog with other dogs and people. Don't forget to use some puppy dog treats as a reward. The old saying that "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" is false. You'd be amazed what people have trained adult dog rescues from local shelters to do! Write to me if you have some great stories!
Dog training doesn't have to be difficult. Make it part of your routine to spend 5 minutes a day or every other day going through some basic commands. Also, don't hit your dog. Your dog will know that he or she has done wrong just by listening to the tone of your voice - just as you know when something's not right with your dog when you hear him or her barking!
