Sporting Group of Dogs

Within the Sporting group, you'll find dogs such as the English Setter, Irish Setter, Pointer, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, American and English Cocker Spaniel and the Weimaraner. Similar to the hounds, this group also includes many hunters. However, these some of these breeds are skilled at tracking down game, while other breeds are better at retrieving game.

Some of the most popular breeds fall within the Sporting group such as the Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever. These dogs are outstanding family pets. However, recognize that they enjoy quite a bit of exercise in their younger years and can be quite active. Be prepared to take these dogs on regular walks. Another breed to consider is the Weimaraner. This breed has never become extremely popular, but has a beautiful silver coat. They also sometimes have gorgeous blue eyes. These dogs are generally laid back, but require quite a bit of exercise and can be very protective of their family and property.
