Toy Group of Dogs
Within the toy group, you'll find dogs such as the Bichon Frise, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Chihuahua, Italian Greyhound, Papillion, Pekingese, Pomeranian, Pug and Yorkshire Terrier. As the group name implies, these are the some of the smallest of all dogs. They can be great lap dogs - based on their weight and height. However, just because they're small, doesn't mean they'll sit quietly on your lap for hours. Some of these dogs are very playful and would prefer to be on the floor running around the house than relaxing in your arms.
Within the toy group, I'm partial to the Pugs. These dogs are often called "big dogs in a small dog's body". Pugs are very strong-willed and playful. They're a sturdier breed than some of their toy group companions. However, note that Pugs tend to become overweight, if their owners overfeed them or don't provide modest exercise. Additionally, they sometimes have eye problems. Be careful to consult the breeder about any genetic health problems in the lines when picking out a puppy or dog.
The Chihuahua is becoming a very popular breed. Owners like their pocket size and their willingness to be carried around town - from the local shopping mall to the movie theatre to the neighbor's house. Perhaps, this breed has become popular as a result of many celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears owning them and being often photographed with their Chihuahuas.
